Essence Bench

A&Ré design’s bench combines upcycled wood with a concrete base. The wood employed in the construction of the Essences bench comes from scrap bits that were too small to be used alone, yet valued once taken down to a standard size, and integrated into an ensemble. The seating once put together is sanded on three sides for comfort, and kept raw on the last side, thus preserving the memory of past uses. It is attached to the feet using the same system of rims and bolts that holds the wood modules together. The concrete base, developed in collaboration with Berlin-based BetonWare, is made of fiber-reinforced concrete in order to provide additional strength.

  2. Bench Made from Upcycled Wood and Concrete - April 17, 2012

[...] Using wood end pieces from other projects, ARé design mated the resulting slab to simple and clean looking legs made from fiber concrete. The legs were made in collaboration with betonWare, making for a unique look while still being sturdy. The result is called the Essence Bench, a piece of furniture I certainly wouldn’t mind having in my apartment. [via Recyclart] [...]
