Plumbers cement held mine together of course tie ties to keep in place until it dried and hot glue cooled. It’s in my kitchen my Irish wolfhound loves it lol
I think the zip ties are perfect. since this is for in gardening shed or outside. i don’t garden bare foot. U could always use pieces of tarp sliced up. love all the ideas.

I made this rug and have left it outside for 2 summers and 2 winters now. It is had held up very good. As for the zip ties being sharp on the feet. The side that I clipped the tails off of is on the bottom side of the rug. It is very comfortable to walk on..feels just like a pair of croc shoes. It looks as good as when I first made it. I am on mission to make another one this year. The hunt is on for old hoses.
I made one of these and was excited about the idea. The sun broke down the zip ties after the first summer, and all were breaking. It was a lot of hard work, and ended up in the trash. Only NOW it had 100 zip ties adding to the mix. I would NOT recommend.

how do you join the color together with them having the end on or do you cut each end off? Thanks for the idea

I just happen to have an old hose right now and wondered if you have or could supply a more detailed tutorial? The pictures are great but I personally need a little more instruction. How did you keep the different colored hoses in a pattern? Did you just cut them where you wanted them to end? How do you decide how long to start in the middle? I need a certain size and I am wondering how to start the rug to get the size I want. Thank you so much for any help you might be able to offer.… Read more »
If you want a 3×5 …..you would do a 2 foot center….the difference between the 3 and 5. If you want 3×6 you would do a 3 foot center.

I agree–the wire ties are very uncomfortable and they dry rot quickly becoming sharper. I’ve been making for years without the wire ties. The adhesive holds for years in all types of weather.
This would be perfect on the floor of the greenhouse. Love this idea!

Since I usually set up a foot washing station outside I think this would be great to put by the bench when drying my feet. Love grounding/earthing, so good for us. Zip ties are a bit spendy but at least the hose doesn’t end up in the landfill.

I love this idea! I have an ugly dirt area in my yard where a Huge oak tree was cut down. I could cover that area and put planters, chairs, etc. around it. I would love a detailed tutorial though. Especially on how you add another hose, etc..
Wouldn’t those plastic cable ties feel a bit rough and sharp on bare feet?
Put those ends that you would clip off on the bottom so you would be walking on the smooth top part.

Agree – looks like a tripping hazard with no obvious purpose. Better to recycle an old hose into something else.
Buying plastic ties kind of defeats the purpose, but I love the idea, and would be more likely to use rope, string, or fabric scraps.

How many ft of hoses did you use? Also are thick or thin hoses better?
Could you join them with a cork and glue?
