Single Champagne Cork Miniature Chairs Dwr Contest

Every year, DWR (Design Within Reach) hosts a charming contest to create the coolest miniature chair using only a single champagne cork. The winners have been announced for the 2015 edition and the results are pretty amazing.
First Place is the Crescent Chair by Bruce Hirschman, created using many tools, including a jeweler’s saw, X-Acto knife, drill press, grinding burrs and belt sander. Figuring out how to shape cork was his biggest challenge.

It’s not the easiest of materials, my process was the traditional sculpture method: just remove everything that is not the sculpture.

And if you need a fun and easy tutorial to do a tiny chair with those little wire pieces that hold in a champagne cork, see our post “DIY: Champagne Tiny Chair“. You can also reuse your champagne corks into a cool chandelier as seen here!
