All those projects, all a different story. The story of deer is a bit sad. I made deer a couple years ago, and it was picked up by a company in my town. They loved the deer to be in their store. It was massive, a big deer with four legs and a whole body. But on a hot summers day it decided to crash and landed on the floor in hundreds of pieces. Sadly the had been still intact and is my trophy until this day.
Hobbelman’s feeling for style and composition stand out brilliantly in his new project Animaux. Hobbelman uses old, discarded electronic devices and turns them into figures of animals. For years he has been working at the ‘Ontdekfabriek’ (Discovery Factory) in Eindhoven, where he gave workshops for children in which he used e-waste to assemble small robots. At the moment, Tim works from home and finds most of his materials in second hand shops. He is a polite, friendly guy: “I do think what I make is a form of art, but to say it’s art…?”
