Herb Garden from Reused Coffee Pods

My background is very eclectic. My interest range from cuckoo clock repair to artisan bread. But my two favorites are repurposing everyday items into unexpected uses and growing fresh herbs. Fresh herbs add so much flavor to any and every dish, whether homemade or added as an adjunct to a purchased meal. But they are a pain in the butt to grow! You need a lot of plants so that when you clip one plant, there are others to use until the first grows back in. Herb plants usually mean a lot of space. Well, they USED to say a lot of space! That problem is now solved! And it’s all because of coffee!I recently upgraded my coffee maker and received some full pot coffee pods. I found that if you carefully peel back the top label after use, you can separate the filter holding the coffee grounds from the outer casing.

I recently upgraded my coffee maker and received a number of full pot coffee pods. I found that if you carefully peel back the top label after use, you can separate the filter holding the coffee grounds from the outer casing. The rotating pod holder has spots for twenty-four empty pod casings. A little potting soil and a few seeds in each casing along with a place in the sun and you have started a gourmet herb garden. All in less space than a bread machine!

I have loaded my casings with six different herbs in rows of four each and matched each row to the herbs growing height with the tallest at the top and decreasing size on the way down. That way, each herb will get the maximum sunlight, and it will be easier to water each herb’s casing. I hope this will get you started growing herbs!

Great idea, I am an instant coffee user but I know someone who uses the cups and I will ask them to save them for me. It wonderful you thought of a way to use those small cups!
I use my grandchildren’s yogurt containers for seedling. The have a clear dome cap which makes it a mini green house.
