The ‘ROAD SHARK’ by Bill Thomson, is the latest of a series of recycled ‘fish themed’ works created by this Burnaby, BC., Canada artist. A fun piece for the wall or at your local road builders convention. Metal road signs cut by the artist using a jig saw into unique and fun recycled art works. Check out samples of Bill’s art works on the ‘Recycleart’ site by searching his name.

Sound artist Yuri Suzuki took the idea of recycled art to new heights with this innovative sound sculpture made from thousands of Red Stripe Lager. The project, Red Stripe’s ‘Make Something from Nothing’, blended the rich resourcefulness of Jamaican culture with unique reggae and dub influenced music. In this video the creative process is discussed by the artists involved and then the finished product is tested successfully by local musicians. Jamaican culture and reggae music are united by a DIY ethos. Musicians, artists and other creative individuals use the materials available in their environments to make something new, such as steel drums made from discarded oil cans. Suzuki’s sound sculpture was made largely from recycled cans collected during London’s Notting Hill Carnival.

DJ Al Fingers and singer/songwriter Gappy Ranks were the first musicians to interact with Suzuki’s beer can sculpture, but they were not the last. Talented musicians Ben UFO and MC Chunky used the sound system as an integral part of their musical performances at the Village Underground launch party. The rumbling, metallic sounds provided by the beer cans blended perfectly with the easy-going reggae and dubstep music played by Ranks, Ben UFO and MC Chunky.

The Red Stripe can sculpture created by Yuri Suzuki married the interests of eco-minded art with the passion of reggae and Jamaican culture. By bringing his passion for repurposing and DIY to bear on his interest in technology and sound, Suzuki was able to inspire artists who are interested in creating sustainable works of art.

Handcrafted art sculptures handmade in Cambodia from recycled bomb shells.

Ironwork artisans have been trained by a professional in their handicraft skill. Produced in a small workshop under ethical conditions in the urban city of Phnom Penh. Bomb casings are left over from Cambodia’s wartime three decades ago. Ironwork artisans then skillfully mold bomb shells into creative little creatures, introducing a small income to underprivileged communities.

Images included of Father Bee. Mother Bee. Nativity Set.

Craftworks Cambodia aim to provide the underprivileged Cambodian home based producers the opportunity to be trained in the production and marketing of contemporary craft, committed to the personal development of workers as individuals in an economic, social enterprise. They provide employment to home based workers and pay fair wages for their work and a safe work environment.

Working very closely with the home based workers and producer groups with disabilities, disadvantages, and vulnerability in the communities of Cambodia.

Once a month they go [...]

My elementary and middle school friend Tom Samui from Switzerland makes these custom sculptures out of recycled car and motorcycle parts. He’s looking to expand his customer base and he’s asked me to collaborate with him.

He and his team have been perfecting these sculptures over the last ten years. Once a month they go to a junk yard and cart away a truckload of old car and motorcycle parts. The pieces are cleaned and sorted by type; nothing is thrown away. All pieces are welded together, polished and varnished with special anti-rust lacquer. It takes about 400 hours of work to complete a large sculpture. The details and the quality of the work can be seen especially on the deer and the American Indian on the horse by clicking on the images (below).

Whether you have a drawing, a photo, a model, an idea; he can make almost any object in any size between 3 feet (1 meter) and 26 feet (8 meters). If the sculpture is smaller than 3 feet (1 meter) the minimum order is 20 pieces. The larger pieces can be taken apart into up to 10 pieces and can be transported to almost anywhere in the world. Production time for custom pieces is two to three months.
