Would it leak?
My thinking and suggestion would be to not empty the contents of the bottle before you cut it. In other words cut the bottle w/ the soda (or beer) still inside. That way the cap remains in place as it was when factory applied.
Find a friend that home-brews beer and see if they can cap the short tops with their capper. Mine is adjustable to many heights and have used wood blocks to “fine tune” to the bottle
