The crosses are made by Rebecca Shelly at my studio in New Mexico, USA. Each cross has it's own unique name and is signed by the artist.
The jeweled crosses are a mixed media wall art form made from recycled vintage and modern jewelry, but can also include upcycled, repurposed treasures such as ornaments, belt buckles, a sardine can, bottle caps and more. Each cross is one of a kind, no two are exactly the same. I start with a painted wood base and proceed to hand layer the jewelry and recycled treasures one piece at a time. The upcycled items are mounted on wood with a drilled keyhole for hanging on the wall or in a frame or shadow box.
Rebecca Shelly; A local artist living in Sandia Park, NM was always interested in art. She started with interior design, but was not satisfied with the profession. Painting murals for six years she then progressed to painting, and using recycled materials on gourds. Leaving the art field for ten years to raise a son, she always had a yearning to be more creative. Collecting crosses, as they are represented by so many artists, each so individual, the idea came to Rebecca to embellish with jewelry and other recycled objects. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do in creating each one of a kind piece.
