As a boy I would take apart my toys and remove batteries from every small appliance I could find (much to my parents? dismay). To this day I can?t recall what I did with those batteries, but my fascination with product design and function certainly had its early beginnings in my childhood playroom. My further interests led to over a decade in film work ? taking random pieces of footage and creating a new cohesive story. From here grew a hobby, turned business, I entitled ?reclaiming creativity?.
My product line began with two goals: 1) taking disparate pieces of every day life and repurposing them for new and unique functions, and 2) having fun doing it. Some of my first and most popular creations include vintage fans repurposed as Edison bulb-fitted lamps. Each fan goes through a meticulous process of cleaning, painting, polishing and rewiring. Along with the vintage fans, many product parts, including vintage radio speakers, camera lenses, gas pumps, flashlights, and more, are discovered at local flea markets. We have some of the best flea markets here in the South, and it?s always exciting to envision what could become the next Dan Cordero reclaimed home accent.
