I made this twig tree wall decor about two years ago just for a weekend project, and I dismantled it so I can show you how to do it. Awww, I didn’t have to, right? I could’ve just made another one, I know but I had to fix it up anyway. So I’m not that thoughtful as you might think…well…
Before you throw the twigs into your yard waste bag, pick out the good ones. And by that, I mean those that aren’t brittle. You can pick different sizes. Here is complete list of the materials you need for this DIY:
- Twigs
- Brown thread
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Pencil
- Glue gun
- Scrapbook paper or construction paper
- Glue stick
- White glue
Play around with the twigs first and try to form a tree shape by placing the sticks together. The first one you have to form is the trunk of the tree. Tie it tight in a bundle with brown thread or string.
Then with shorter twigs, you can form the pseudo branches. What I did was insert a twig at a time through the bundled up twigs. Wherever I could see an opening to loop and intertwine. When you get a good set of twigs together that look good in one section of the tree top, tie it tight in a bundle to secure it.
The tied bundles still need to be secured so at this point, use your glue gun to put hot glue on the sections of the bundles where you can glue them to a secure twig.
Cut out the bird shapes. Then use another printed paper to make the wings, just cut them into teardrop shapes. Paste, the tear drop, shapes onto the middle section of the bird cut-out.
Get brown thread and cut about 6″ then loop it and knot the edge. Cut small paper squares and glue that onto the back of your bird cut out with the thread in between. Let it dry.
Hang the twig tree wall decor on the wall, and then you can place your paper birds. Was that easy or what! Decorate your wall with this DIY or give it as a gift. Whoever receives this will definitely be so delighted.
