Recycled Gym Floor Dining Room Table

This table happened completely by chance when on an X-mas Eve Beer Gathering, we were all talking about a table that Kevin and Kylene Huff had built out of an old barn. I mentioned that I was always a fan of the reclaimed gym floor )from Harmoney School in Bloomington, IN. He salvaged it over 15 years ago and now, part of it is my dining room table.) in the building that our friend Tom Batistta owns and I wish I could make a table out of something like that. Tom’s reply was “Are you serious?” and I said yes, and he told me that a week or so from then, they would be tearing out part of the floor to replace with granite, so he could make sure they salvage it. 2 weeks later, he delivered and I picked the pieces up on a snowy crappy day. With A TON of help from Ben Langebartels, I was able to make it a reality. My friend Kevin Huff matched the stain for me to match the top and also introduced me to a woodworker named Dennis who milled the tapered legs to save me a little money. The top is mounted to 2″ maple butcher block. This beast weighs approx. 200lbs or so put together. Thanks to everyone who helped make this thing come together. My fiancée, Cynthia, found the chairs on Craigslist from Syd and Harper’s Recycled Style store and got the set at a great price. The top of the table has 6 coats of polyurethane and the sides, legs and apron have 3 coats.
