Humanoid Faces Made of Doll Parts

We already presented you some works done with upcycled dolls or doll parts like the jewelry of Margaux Lange, this creepy scorpio-doll or even these little lights ! Now, we present you the work of artist Freya Jobbins that creates her original and detailed assemblage by using plastic doll parts and toys. She uses miscellaneous pieces of dolls and toys to create these really cool but also creepy humanoid assemblages of faces, heads  and larger busts. Each piece of plastic is painstakingly carved, glued layer over layer, creating depth to each unique assemblage. Freya is mainly inspired by Guiseppe Archimboldo and his fruit and vegetable paintings; and  other artist’s work such as  Penny Byrne’s ceramic creations,  Ron Muek’s giant people, Gunther Von Hagen’s plastinated corpses,  and of course the Toy Story Trilogy, their influences are very obvious in her assemblages.

Freya Jobbins was born in Johannesburg, South Africa but grew up in West Sydney, Australia and this how she describes her work:

My work explores the relationship between consumerist fetishism and the emerging recycling culture within the visual arts. Due to our society’s over  consumption of plastic children’s toys,  the materials  I need for my assemblages are all very accessible.
