Utilizing bicycle inner tubes, my abstractions create both a literal and visual tension as I vary the depth and width, direction and line through the constant pull of the material. Sculptural, yet constrained to singular planes, my works are alternative drawings retaining the aesthetic of former purpose.
I am up-cycling, taking environmentally non-recyclable materials and utilizing them to challenge perspective. While I have utilized various mediums over the years to create art, my passion for textures and decayed, man-made objects, has led me to found materials. I love a true evidence of age in objects – it gives them a depth that cannot be replicated by chemical or man-made means.
