I took an old pre-loved fire truck toy, masked, sprayed and wired it to become a new and slightly different table lamp.
The ladder part of the truck moves from left to right by a control lever on the truck, making this a great desk or reading lamp, as the bulb can swing across to where you would like it. I have used an energy saving globe lightbulb to hang off the ladder and over the truck.
Enjoy and check my website blog for more details.

The inner child still lives!
This is groovy. I have a couple of lamps I have made using old toy cars. One an old chevy coupe and one a morris minor, that I wired up and finished with vintage lamp shades. This is the first thing close I’ve seen and I love it, especially the movable crane light. That’s one cool toy truck.
I might start a upcycled page on my website soon
Love it!
cool, i’d preffer that you’ve painted the truck in a more vivant color or softer, anyway isnt an antiquité isn’t it?

Great idea! Another fun way to make a toy like this into something functional would be to get a low-wattage bulb from a nightlight and install it in the cab of the truck. Then you’d have a neat nightlight.
Thanks for sharing this!

That is so cool.
It just sets the brain off in all sorts of creative directions…
Kids would love this kind of thing and what a great use of a fire truck’s existing elements. I guess not all toys would so naturally lend themselves to a table lamp, but would have other possibilities. I’m already thinking of options for an old Kenner Millenium Falcon…
Ceiling light maybe?
