So this is my first attempt to make something from plastic cement bags. I was inspired by this the article on Recyclart: Recycled Cement Bag Into Sustainable Fashion. But all the bags I had were just plain white and also I wanted to create something original. And here' s the result. This is a sitting mat with a layer of insulation to protect you from the coldness of the wild grounds of nature and you can make one for yourself.
First of all, take a bag and wash it. Then cut off the bottom part. Using a hot tool of some sort to prevent unthreading might be a good idea in these case. Then cut your insulation material. I used three sheets of 2mm foamed polyethylene. You need to make it shorter than your bag for approx 10cm and a little bit narrower to compensate the thickness. Then put it inside the bag and fold it's edging as shown in the photo. Use pins to fix everything in place and make sure that you're sitting on a cold floor while doing this because unnecessary sufferings make you a real artist. Then sew the edges of the bag. It's a good thing to try at first on a separate piece to get the whole adjustments right ant to make sure that your sewing machine can handle it at all. Then divide the width of an entire piece by 4 and sew lines in 1/4 from the edges (see the picture). It will create folding lines for... folding. Now apply any pattern you like and sew it through to give the stiffness for all thing. Add some straps with buckles, velcro or something else and it's done. Now you have it, a cement bag sitting mat.
