First, buy ping pong balls at the nearest dollar store, then spray balls in groups using a different color for each group (might be nice to do with an ombre effect too). They used 30 balls per group (6 rows) for a total of 180 balls for a 45 cm diameter shade. Drill a small hole with the needle into opposite ends of each ball. Using nylon thread make garlands knotting one end first then pulling thread through each ball from one hole to the other (like beading) filling up the string until all balls are used to the diameter size of your frame; tie the wire up against the last ball. Tie the garland of balls around the lampshade structure, repeat next garland, and so on until the entire shade is covered. Hang from a pendant string light.
How is it ‘recycling’ when it tells you to buy ping pong balls at a dollar store…?
I want to make this!
I want to make this too. Very interesting!!!
That’s not recycled. It’s kind of wasteful. It’s best to just buy a used lamp at a thrift shop.
Yeah. Looks good, but buying new stuff’s not exactly recycling is it?
That was my thought too Amanda
Agree with many here….this is not recycling…for that matter even if the materials are old, yet can be used for the same purpose that they were originally made for, it’s wasteful to use them for any other purpose…like the tub lighting which was recently featured…were those tubs really gone into trash?
It’s a cute idea – maybe could find a way to do with recycled items? Check out a local thrift or junk shop? (I think it’s ok to repurpose things if they no longer serve their original purpose, or are someone elses throwaways, yeah?)
looks really stylish and cute! As other have said I guess it’s more more “repurposing” than recycling but definitely has potential to become a recycling project :)
i REALLY want to do this i dont care if it is recycling or not i want this in my room but i dont understand the directions… could you pleaseeee help?????? email me at aj******@ho*****.com
All these comments about recycling…easy fix in the debate. Buy the balls. Invite friends over for a ping pong party and play the game. When the party’s over, the friends leave and you are stuck with ping pong balls. Hmmm…what to do with all these balls? I can’t use them so I think I’ll just throw them away. OH but wait a minute! I can spray paint them and string them together for a new lamp for my next party! There. I’ve officially recycled. shhhessh.
:-) Good One Dori !
Use roll-on deo balls :)
